  1. Well done! Have you read Shirley McCune’s book? What
resources would you recommend for further education?
BTW…passed on your website to Janet.

Thanks to all your efforts in ridding our state of Common Core.

  2. I want to get involved. I am very concerned about my children’s education and the dumbing down effects that I am watching. Common Core seems to be an even larger scale of dumbing our children down! My children are in the Shoreline District. What can I do? How does Common core impact charter schools or does it?

  3. I have received several”student release forms” which would allow my childs classroom to be video taped, photographed, etc including examples of their wirk. From what i gathered from the NBPTS website, this is a Common Core CERTIFICATION. Alao involved is Pearson foundation.

Has anyone witnessed this in their schools or had any experience with this.

My instinct is to opt my child out

    • I just took a quick look at the NBPTS website at http://www.nbpts.nesinc.com/Home.aspx and I did not see any mention of Common Core. It is possible I didn’t look close enough. To my knowledge, the NBPTS certification is not a Common Core certification. If it is, I would like to see verifying documents. The student receiving bring home these release forms must have a teaching who is preparing for National Board certification. Act on your instinct. If it were my child, I would definitely indicate on the forms that my child may not be included in any pictures or videos and examples of work may not be used.

    • Your instinct should be HOME SCHOOL. As long as we leave our kids in school this will never stop. Start pulling your kids out of school and you will get their attention REAL FAST. When they start losing funding (schools are funded based on head count) they will have their come to Jesus moment and do as we want. Gotta take the hard steps in order to save our kids!!! It is all about priorities.

  4. My 7th grader just took the MAPS test today. Apparently there were multiple correct answers for several questions. The teachers response was “not sure what to do” . My son is in the top 2% so i trust he’s accurate on his assessment. Several other students also mentioned this as well. COMMON CORE? I have read in other states where pearson’s curriculum had many errors. Nothing like an assessment that assesses nothing. I hope we win this battle to stop common core in Washington.

I live in Washington state. The curriculum is a mess.Just because Gates started a great company doesn’t mean he knows anything about anything else. Oh yeah- he can play bridge. The state of Washington has ruined the promise of many students in mathematics- thus providing an ample income for all the stay at home mom engineers to tutor math just to keep kids level with the education in OTHER states. Don’t ever do ANYTHING that Washington state does! Education should be local and based on the needs of all students. Parents know that some kids are really smart and some are not- education should not be a socialist agenda but a local district agendal. KEEP CONTROL of your education!

  6. Wow. Just stumbled onto this site. You all are idiots and paranoids. If you truly look into the research behind the Common Core (and not just listen to Glenn Beck), or had any real understanding of education, you would know vital the new standards are for improving rigor and the skills needed for the 21st Century.

    • You actually have it exactly backwards. Your unqualified defense of the awful “Common Core” most likely means one of two things: 1) You accept everything that is handed to you by our federal and state governments without qualification or any healthy adult skepticism,
      OR
      2) You’re being paid, directly or indirectly, by the people who want to impose Common Core on our state. (However none of those people have their own children enrolled in public schools.)

So, which is it in your case: Are you simply naive and easily mislead or are you saying this nonsense just because you’re getting money to say it?

  7. Please plan on joining us on November 6th at 7 p.m. in the University High School Theatre. We will share information about our School Improvement Plan (SIP), Common Core State Standards, and our academic progress. Approximately half of our meeting time will be for parents and guardians to ask questions of our administrative team.

  8. Wish more patents had come to the u-high meeting last night. I was the only one in the room who knew anything about it, including most facts we received from the principle on CC.

  9. I would like to find out if our Catholic Schools are following this new CCore. Do you have a listing of schools that are following this CCore Curriculum? I suspect our school is but would like more information before approaching the board. thanks

    • No, we don’t have a list of Catholic Schools that have adopted the CCSS. To find out if your school is using it, I would suggest asking a teacher and the principal at your school.

  10. As a teacher, this site makes me sad. Instead of fighting education and what’s going on you should be helping and if there are things you feel that are lacking you should teach them at home. Greater focus in not dumbing down, it’s allowing for greater depth.

    • “Dumbing down?!?!”

The irony in your letter is inescapable to most readers.

Common Core IS the very definition of “Dumbing Down!”
That is the entire intent of these spurious examinations designed to “prove” how supposedly “bad” our students, teachers and schools supposedly are so that with this “data” they can then accomplish two goals:
      1) Make their buddies in the testing industrial complex—like Pearson—make even MORE money from our kids and
      2) Accelerate their plans to gradually shut down all public schools and hand them over to private entities that will use them as “cash cows” to feed a handful of already extremely wealthy executives and investors.

      Any questions?

  11. We are sponsoring a speech by Art Thompson on exposing the scheme to rewrite education. Common core is a national education standard that is being forced on states and local school districts. Local control of the schools will be gone. The speech is January 27, 2014 at the Embassy Suites, Lynnwood at 7:00 PM. We need to get many there to stop Common Core before it is to late. More info at http://www.cisum.org/snocojbs/

  12. I’m considering pulling my youngest out of school. Aside from him being miserable in the public school environment the whole Common Core has me concerned. Does anyone know about the WA State Insight Program where the child can learn from home instead?

  13. I heard about this book going around called It’s perfectly normal. And my daughter found it at her school. And this book is back by planned parent hood. The images in the book are not ok for children.

  14. I am puzzled: the Common Core is an Initiative. An initiative has to be put forward to the vote of the people or be voted on by law makers. Neither has happened. And yet our state is going ahead, implementing and spending our tax dollars on something that has not gone through the proper channels!!!! Is there something wrong with my thinking?

  15. Get tickets on Common Core at weshallnotconform.com. Showtimes at 650 theaters at 8:00PM on Tues, July 22,2014. This is an interactive program sponsored by Glenn Beck featuring Michelle Malkin, David Barton, Freedom Works, etc. Be there to STOP Common Core!!!!
We need to organize a demonstration at Olympia of all anti-common core patriots.
That is the only way we will be able to stop it in Wa. state.

  16. From Everett Herald Monday:

Washington State accepted the new COMMON CORE national standards for math and English in 2011 and started applying them in schools the following year.

“Citizens Against Common Core” members–one can figure– are not happy about it!

As a service to the public and especially voters– a poll by them was conducted of all 2014 Washington State upcoming candidates in both state legislature and US Senate. It invites them to formulate a short pro or con reasoned opinion about those standards including possible complete rejection!

Each candidate’s updated response– district by district– is to be found here:
